Florida: what changed for 2027
Florida insurers asked for an average increase of about 15.3% for 2027, and regulators approved a lower weighted average of about 10.4%. That still follows a 31.5% average increase in 2026. Some plans rose far more than the average, and two insurers are pulling back: Cigna is leaving the Marketplace, and Sunshine State Health Plan's Marketplace products end after 2026, with members who do not choose a plan moved to Ambetter.

Why rates keep going up
Two forces are stacking. The first is the cost of care itself: hospital prices, specialty drugs and GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes drugs keep pushing medical costs up about 10% a year. The second is who is still enrolled. The enhanced tax credits expired at the end of 2025, many healthier people dropped coverage in 2026, and insurers priced the sicker risk pool into both years. That is why a state can see a large increase two years in a row.
The average is not your number, though. Carriers in the same ZIP code moved by very different amounts, and your tax credit is tied to the benchmark silver plan, not your plan. If your plan rose faster than the benchmark, you pay the whole difference.
What to do before December 15
- Don't auto-renew. If you do nothing, you usually stay in the same plan at the new price.
- Update your 2027 income estimate. Tax credits are based on expected income. Self-employed people and truck drivers should use projected net profit, not gross revenue.
- Compare every plan in your ZIP code. The cheapest plan last year is often not the cheapest this year.
- Look at the whole year, not just the premium. The 2027 out-of-pocket maximum is $12,000 for one person, so a cheap plan with a high deductible can cost more if you use care.
- Check your doctors and prescriptions before you switch.
- Pick a plan by December 15 for a January 1 start. Open Enrollment closes January 15 in most states.

Frequently asked
How much are health insurance rates going up in 2027?
Across the 32 states in our table, the average 2027 rate increase is 16.0%, on top of an average 24.9% increase for 2026. Increases range from 6.0% in Arkansas to 29.0% in Arizona. These are average changes before tax credits, so your own premium can move more or less.
Which states have the biggest 2027 rate increases?
The five largest average 2027 increases in our table are Arizona (29.0%), Montana (23.3%), Oklahoma (21.6%), Mississippi (21.1%), Wisconsin (21.1%). 7 states are at 20% or more.
How much are Florida health insurance rates going up for 2027?
Florida insurers filed for an average increase of about 15.3% for 2027. Regulators approved a lower weighted average of about 10.4%. Individual plans can still rise much more or less than the average, so compare plans before you renew.
Will I pay the full increase?
Not necessarily. If you get a premium tax credit, it is tied to the benchmark silver plan in your area, so your share depends on how your plan's price moved compared with that benchmark. Updating your income estimate and comparing plans during Open Enrollment can lower what you pay.
When can I change plans to avoid the increase?
Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027 in most states. Pick a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1.
