Why restaurant coverage is different

South Florida hospitality has brutal turnover, and replacing a line cook or an experienced server costs real money. Health benefits are the single strongest signal that yours is the place worth staying — and with group plans starting at just 2 enrolled employees, they are more attainable than most owners think. You control the contribution, you can set eligibility by hours or job class, and seasonal swings from Miami Spice to high season do not break the plan. We set it all up, in English and Spanish, at no cost to you.

Common questions from Miami & Fort Lauderdale restaurant owners

Frequently asked

Do I have to offer health insurance at my restaurant?

Only employers with 50+ full-time-equivalent employees are required to under the ACA. Most independent restaurants are under that line, so benefits are optional — but in South Florida's hospitality labor market they're one of the strongest retention tools you have. The restaurants that offer coverage keep their cooks.

How much does restaurant health insurance cost per employee?

Most Miami-Dade and Broward restaurant groups land between roughly $350 and $650 per enrolled employee per month depending on plan tier, network, and ages — and you choose how much the restaurant contributes. Many owners start around 50% of the employee-only premium. Restaurants under 25 employees may also qualify for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.

Can I cover managers and kitchen leads but not all staff?

Often yes. Carriers allow eligibility classes based on bona fide job categories — salaried management vs. hourly staff, for example — applied consistently. We set it up so it stays compliant.

What about part-time servers and seasonal staff?

You set the eligibility threshold, commonly 30 hours per week. Staff under it aren't required to be on the group plan, and many hospitality workers qualify for heavily subsidized ACA marketplace plans — we help them enroll too, at no cost.

What does it cost to work with you?

Nothing. As an independent advisor, I'm compensated by the carriers when you enroll. Quotes, plan comparisons, setup, paperwork, and ongoing support are free to your business.

Can I cover myself as the owner and my 1099 contractors?

Owners can be covered on a group plan, and I can set up ACA or individual options for 1099 staff who aren't eligible for the group. We'll map the most cost-effective mix for your team.

When can I set up a group plan for my restaurant?

Group plans can be started year-round — you're not limited to Open Enrollment. Individual and ACA plans for part-time staff follow the November 1 to January 15 window, plus Special Enrollment events.

How is this different from going direct to a carrier?

Going direct only shows you that one carrier's plans. I compare the full market across major carriers in Broward County and build what actually fits your team and budget — not what one company has to sell.

How fast can coverage start for my restaurant?

Most restaurant groups can be quoted within a day or two and implemented by your target start date. I handle paperwork, ID cards, and staff onboarding — in English and Spanish — so you don't lose a shift to it.
